Samantha McCormack
Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
I have been working in care for a number of years and have worked my way up from part time care assistant through different job roles to a house leader. My main responsibilities are to ensure the people we look after are the main focus ensuring everyone is safe, empowered and feels valued by ensuring out employees have the right training, equipment and support to do their jobs.
I wanted to do this apprenticeship to improve my skills, knowledge and be better equipped to guide and develop the staff team. With the help and support of my assessor and employer I have learnt and developed within my role. Time management and adaptive working has been the hardest challenge with covid-19 having a huge impact on home and work life.
The knowledge and skills learnt on my apprenticeship will help me to empower people to be the best they can be, sharing my knowledge and experience with them to provide the highest standards of care.
I have gained feedback through supervision from my manager that my skills and communication have improved and generally improved in my job role. My assessor Becky, has been a huge help by supporting me when I was struggling to balance work, covid and the apprenticeship. Any questions I have not quite understood or read wrong, Becky has been available any time I have asked for help.
I would like to continue to progress within my role and complete further qualifications, focussing on leadership and management.
